Math—We continue to work on Math Minutes every morning for the first 20 minutes of class. Again, these cover a variety of skills that students need to become familiar with before going to 6th grade. We just started another level of worksheets called Drops in a Bucket. These focus on a variety of skills and build on previous learned skills. We do these together. We will continue to work on multiplying 2 and 3 digits by 2-digits. Some students are having a difficult time with these problems. We are going slow so that students will have a better understanding of how to work these problems successfully. Please continue to work with your child on multiplication facts at home. Learning these will help your child to progress faster when we get into fractions and decimals.
Literacy— Every day we work on editing paragraphs. Students look for mistakes in capitalization, punctuation, verb tense, use of quotation marks and other useful skills they will use when writing. We will take a quiz on the Survival book this week before starting to read the book “Hatchet”. Again, the students love to read aloud, which is something they can work on at home. I am so proud of these students and their love for reading.
